Almost exactly 10 years after opening the first Uppers & Downers store, the Viennese concept store celebrated the grand opening of its new, now second, location at Kirchengasse 43 in 1070 Vienna on January 24th, 2014. Over 200 invited guests from fashion, art, music and media gathered for drinks and finger food as well as DJ sounds to experience the unique concept of the uppers & downers concept superstore.
On around 200 square meters, the uppers & downers concept superstore now offers a unique range of premium vintage and “rare finds” as well as carefully curated international brands – including brands such as CLE, mid/night 00.00, J. Hannah, Licia Florio but also artistically valuable workbooks such as Moon Lists by Leigh Patterson as well as a select selection of books and magazines.
Uppers & Downers Launches Gallery Space with Samt & Seide’s Groundbreaking Exhibition
As a special highlight, uppers & downers also presented its Gallery Space integrated into the store: From now on, the uppers & downers Gallery will offer a permanent, representative platform for the works of young, contemporary artists and new exhibitions every two months, curated by uppers & downers co-owner and creative director Dzenana Mujadzic, present. First up is the Vienna-based textile artist “Samt & Seide”, whose work deals with the inherently “pleasing” medium of the carpet and contrasts its gentle softness with restless, dynamic, often provocative motifs. Her exhibition “mano–a–mano” was presented for the first time as part of the opening party on January 24th, 2024 and can be seen in the uppers & downers Gallery until the end of March 2024.
In addition, the uppers & downers team wants to use the spacious, open rooms of the new location at Kirchengasse 43 in the future as a venue for regular concerts, screenings, performances and lectures by young artists and act as a diverse community space and presentation platform for creative work.
