Vienna Rings in 2024 with the Iconic Philharmonic New Year’s Concert

The world stood captivated as the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra cast a musical spell during the legendary New Year’s Day concert at the Musikverein concert hall.  This celebrated event commenced at 11.15pm, enchanting viewers worldwide via televised broadcasts.

The repertoire of the Vienna New Year’s Day concert annually features an array of beloved waltzes, polkas, and vibrant dances from the esteemed Strauss family, notably compositions by Johann Strauss I and Johann Strauss II. A standout favourite, Johann Strauss II’s timeless Blue Danube Waltz, perennially captivates audiences as one of the enchanting encores.

Interestingly, the inaugural Vienna New Year’s Day Concert wasn’t on January 1st but was held on December 31st, 1939, conceived as a morale-boosting event during wartime. Initially conducted by Clemens Krauss, the reins were later taken over by the esteemed violinist and conductor, Willi Boskovsky, who helmed the majority of the concerts from 1955 to 1979. His stewardship played a pivotal role in transforming the event into the beloved and cherished tradition it stands as today.

Mexican Disney actor who voiced Miguel’s great-grandmother in the Oscar-winning Pixar animation Coco dies at the age of 90 on New Year’s Eve. Prior to her role as Mama Coco, Ofelia graced the Mexican screen in multiple films and TV shows. It’s yet another heartbreaking moment as her fans and colleagues have to say goodbye to the award-winning actress.

Januhairy Challenge: Women Discard Razors for the First month Of the Year

‘Eat healthy’. ‘Get more sleep’. ‘Hit the gym’, ‘Drink more water’… and a lot more are goals that make it to almost everyone’s list of resolutions, especially at this time of the year. However, in the last couple of years, this period has also ushered in the “Januhairy Challenge,” a challenge in which women will choose to ditch shaving their body hair all through the month in order to promote body hair activism. While clean-shaven armpits, arms, legs, and vaginas are considered ‘clean’ and more acceptable to society, this is a forward movement encouraging women to do whatever they choose with their bodies, including leaving their body hair to grow out if that’s what makes them comfortable.
