Amidst an atmosphere charged with anticipation, the esteemed committee of the Best Fashion Talent Award convened at the enchanting Atelier 343 of the Academy of Fine Arts last Thursday. After meticulous evaluation and insightful discussions, three exceptional designers emerged as finalists, securing their coveted opportunity to showcase their collections on the illustrious runway of Fashion LIVE! The finalists, Zuzana Vrábeľová, Jane Vaterková, and Karin Elízová, embody the essence of visionary talent.
Jane Vaterková, known for her exploration of geometry and monochromatic shades, creates versatile objects that blend decoration and functionality. Zuzana Vrábeľová, inspired by unconventional materials, redefines femininity without adhering to conventional notions. Her project “Shrines/Shrines” tells an allegorical tale set in a desolate world. Karin Elízová, a recent graduate, draws inspiration from traditional folk clothing and uses locally sourced wool, handcrafted using traditional techniques. Participating in the Best Fashion Talent competition is a crucial step for Karin Elízová, offering invaluable opportunities and growth within the fashion industry.
The committee, comprising prominent personalities from various creative fields, meticulously assessed criteria such as artistic statement, design intricacy, uniqueness, market potential, and sustainability principles. “A carefully curated assembly of a professional committee, which had the opportunity to get to know the work of our seven semi-finalists, was crucial for the course and the overall result of the presentation and evaluation session. Various perspectives shared by the professionals contributed to a responsible analysis of the presented collections within the evaluation criteria. Thanks to the attentive and diverse perception of the committee members, it was possible to identify the most significant elements of the designers’ presentations, which helped to evaluate the potential and select the three finalists. In October, these three designers will showcase their collections on the runway during Fashion LIVE,” says Zuzana Bobiková, CEO of the Slovak Fashion Council.
Noteworthy jury members included representatives from the Tatra Banka Foundation, the illustrious brand consultant and photographer Marika Majorová, the esteemed curator of the Slovak Design Centre Mária Štvrtecká, and Júlia Sabová, the head of the fashion design studio at the Academy of Fine Arts. The committee also boasted the discerning eye of Harriet Hala, fashion designer and editor-in-chief of Fab’L Style Magazine, alongside Jan Boublík, the esteemed fashion editor of Vogue CS. Completing this esteemed panel were designer Mata Durikovic, the winner of BFT 2022 and a current collaborator with the prestigious fashion house Chanel, PR manager and presenter Babsy Jagušák, fashion editor of Diva.sk Jana Matúšová and creative consultant Rasto Holubec.
The Best Fashion Talent 2023 award not only showcases their exceptional talent but also highlights Slovakia’s creative potential and the growth of sustainable local fashion.
