The City of Lights SS20 PFW

The City of Lights and the International Capital of Fashion becomes a frenzy of photographers roaming the streets of Paris, searching for the best-dressed influencers, celebrities and the most outstanding street style they can find. Old and young fashionistas dress to the nine’s and show up to be part of the scene.   Fashion lovers from all over the world flock to the city to watch the shows of world-renowned designers, but also to catch a glimpse of the celebrities attending. In addition to the main attraction, special events take place throughout the city all week-long; one just has to be at the right place, at the right time.

The city becomes exceptionally chaotic as everyone rushes from show to show.  With a different viewing every hour, it becomes very hectic, but for the regular Fashion Week go’er, this is the norm.  Outside the shows, large groups of people gather to view the trends celebrities are wearing and get a first-hand look at those who are best dressed.

Each show and presentation is in a unique venue, from Vetements holding their show in a McDonald’s to Pigalle holding their show on the roof of a garage building. Celebrities attending range from Vogue editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour, to Fear of God designer Jerry Lorenzo, to basketball’s Russel Westbrooke, and of course, the French favorite, Ms. Celine Dion.

Paris nightlife also reaches its height, with special parties and events taking place day and night, giving PFW visitors a variety of parties to choose from.   As I was walking through the streets of Paris, I came across the L’art de L’automobile store, where Virgil Abloh and Heron Preston were holding a day rave.  Even the likes of Gigi Hadid appeared.

This year the Copenhagen International Fashion Fair came to Paris for the first time. Taking place in a garage building, it was showcasing pre-Spring’20 Womenswear and Spring’20 Menswear, as well as special projects with collaborators and artists.  Each floor of the garage building had different pop-ups from emerging brands and designers to established fashion houses.

I was fortunate enough to attend the Pigalle Paris show, held on the roof of a garage building, overlooking the whole of Paris. Live music was being played as the rooftop started to fill. The show was a mix of contemporary dance and fashion presentation. The designs were full of color and could be seen perfectly underneath the Parisian sun.  In the background, a barbeque was being prepared and a selection of cocktails were being served. What was supposed to just be a fashion show turned into a full-on, chilled out, laid back evening.
