Slovak designers stole the show at BCEFW

The Slovak Designers Stole the Show at the Budapest Central European Fashion Week

The Hungarian Fashion and Design Agency (MDDÜ) recently organised the thirteenth edition of the Budapest Central European Fashion Week from January 22nd to 28th. The main venue of the event was the Museum of Fine Arts. Two Slovak designers, Jane Vaterková and Karin Elízová, the finalists of the Best Fashion Talent 2023 award, showcased their collections.

The event focused on Generation Z is one of the large-scale fashion events in the Central European region. The BCEFW provides a networking platform for professionals, buyers, designers, and national and international media. The first BCEFW of the year featured over 20 brands from Hungary and the Central European region. The fashion week aims to interconnect the fashion industries of Central and Eastern European countries.

The event also included a collective show called “New Generation” for young talents to present their work and gain visibility beyond their home countries. According to Zsófia Jakab, CEO of the Hungarian Fashion and Design Agency, the BCEFW has become one of the major fashion events in the Central European region in recent years. BCEFW offers an opportunity for designers to showcase their collections to industry professionals and gain an early season advantage with high-quality photos, videos, and media outputs.

With the support of the Slovak Fashion Council, Jane Vaterková and Karin Elízová were also able to present their collections during the event.

Jane Vaterková focuses on clothing and textile creation using tailoring techniques combined with textile and craft processes. The characteristics of her work include geometry, line, and play with monochromatic shades.

Karin Elízová, who designs under the ELIZ brand, draws her inspiration from modern architecture and deconstructivism, reflected in simple cuts, clean lines, and geometric tendencies. Her wool collection is hand-felted and inspired by folk clothing, emphasising the value of traditional craftsmanship.

Zuzana Bobiková, the CEO of the Slovak Fashion Council, emphasised the importance of the BCEFW event and the support it brings to the export activities of the creative industry, creating a bridge for fashion brands to expand their operations to international markets. She concluded that the event provides opportunities for young designers and creators to build sustainable careers in the fashion industry beyond their home countries.
