What constitutes art? A complex question, but why make these unnecessary discriminations? Everything is art. So you encounter art in everything, not just shoes, when you enter an Italian shoe workshop. This was the essence of the Dada movement, born in Zurich in 1916 and led by Marcel Duchamp. His main work is a reproduction of the world’s most famous painting, Leonardo’s Mona Lisa, in surreal form and with a provocative goatee. Just as this work combines classic and contemporary art, Sebastian Milano proposes a collection that bridges the brand’s past and its future.
The new Fall Winter 2024/25 collection is called SELAVY, named after Marcel Duchamp’s female alter ego: an elegant woman who wears fashionable clothes and challenges the beliefs of the time… There are no more convictions, only doubts, questions and contradictions.
Ready-made, reinterpretation and gender fluidity are the references for Sebastian Milano’s Fall Winter 24-25 collection.
The DADA model is born, a tribute to the most surreal product of Dadaist culture – Man Ray’s “The Lips” – and Sebastian Milano’s second project in a limited edition of just 99 pairs: a black sandal adorned with “imperfect” lips that aim to give back to femininity a natural look that has been in danger of being lost over the years. The entire collection designed by Dori Hazan circles around the current of Dadaism: the creative director of Sebastian Milano plays with perception by using new materials that confuse the observer.
“This is denim!..isn’t it?”
“Is this a bracelet?
“Is it leather?”
Everything can be everything.
And everything, with a range size from 34 to 44, can be worn by everyone. A concept that confirms the FEM4ALL message as the starting point of every collection. Stay up to date on the newest in the world of Fashion, Arts, Beauty and Lifestyle; Follow FAB on Instagram.
The Fall Winter 2024/25, also produced in Italy by expert artisans, was displayed in the Sebastian Milano showroom, surrounded by tools and objects from the production lab that were given the sense of existing as art and the task of representing the manual effort behind each piece of footwear.
Looking and appearing are very different concepts from being. That’s how it is, that’s how life is. Baby Se’lavy.
