BohoTribalic

Bohemian style, often referred to as “boho” or “boho chic,” popularized during the 1960’s and 1970’s appeared in France after the French Revolution. Deprived of the former system of patronage where wealthy clients supported the arts, artists were plunged into poverty. Many took up a nomadic lifestyle, lived cheaply, and wore worn-out, unfashionable or used clothing.

From its birth in Paris in the 1850s, and the huge success of Murgier’s play Scenes from ‘La vie de Boheme,’ the ethic spread rapidly. In essence, Andy Walker in his ‘What is Bohemian?’ article on BBC News describes bohemianism as a representation of a personal, cultural and social reaction to the bourgeois life.

On the flip side, ‘Style Motivation’ describes tribal fashion as inclusive of African-inspired textiles, bold prints and beaded accessories. Even though I would just refer to that as African Fashion, let’s go with ‘tribal’ today.

While Od Odero refers to my personal style aesthetic as boho-chic, and Eji Benson refers to it as tribal, I found a way to merger these two babies so they can meet up ‘Boho-Tribalically’ through this collective that genuinely extends through my personal style aesthetic.

Welcome to my ‘BohoTribalic’

Danica Bezuidenhout is wearing the high-waist wide-leg trousers worn with a button-down-back crop top accessorized with our abstract kitenge neck pieces complemented by a touch of glam by Zakiyya Bham. While I emphasize on the print detail, I never turn my back away from the silhouettes which bring to life this #BohoTribalic on a 360° flow.

The free flow on the wide-leg trousers bring in a free flow feel that takes me back to ‘la vie boheme’ while the crop top brings back a sentiment I need to share with this femme fatale to complete my story as the creator of this ensemble.

I am wearing a classic #LizOgumbo tie-neck blouse worn with a high-waist 2-pleat mini skirt. This 2-front-pleat mini-skirt brings back a laissez-faire sentiment to the wardrobe as I chic it up with the tie-neck blouse to bring back the complete 360° flow.

While we sip our wine, change positions and pose in the calming ambience of the Epicure Restaurant in Johannesburg, we get lost in the freedom of our creativedom.

The Oxford English Dictionary defines Bohemian as “especially an artist, literary man, or actor, who leads a free, vagabond, or irregular life, not being particular as to the society he frequents, and despising conventionalities generally” while the acronym (Short for “bohemian,”) boho as a style most closely associated with the hippies of the ’60s and ’70s, but borrows from so many fashion subcultures and time periods that almost any outfit can be “boho” if you style it right.

If you like what you see, hurry and get yours at my shop or my showroom.
