Exclusive Conversation With Tony Ward on SS 2024 Collection 'The Other Side of Eden'

Explore the creative mind of Tony Ward, the Architect of Detail, as he talks about his latest Spring-Summer 2024 collection, “The Other Side of Eden.” In this exclusive chat, Ward shares the inspiration behind this unique collection, the symbolic role of circles, and the defining elements that set it apart. He also delves into the collection’s relevance in contemporary society and offers insights into his aspirations for the future.

FAB: The theme of “The Other Side of Eden” carries a powerful narrative. Could you share the genesis of this concept and how it influenced the design choices and aesthetic of the SS 2024 collection?

Tony Ward: I’ve always been inspired by the Woman of Tony Ward; The bold, determined, fierce… I designed my latest collection around her edgy spirit.
There has always been another side of “Eden” that no one talks about, and I was inspired to reveal it and translate it into cut-outs in the dresses, volumes, statement parts, flattering waists…

FAB: Circles seem to play a significant role in the concept. Please shed some light on the symbolism of circles within the context of the Other Side of Eden.

Tony Ward: It’s simply the circle of life, and Eden is inside that circle—it’s her space.

FAB: Looking at the look book and the collection’s pieces, there seems to be a fusion of different styles and influences. Can you highlight some key design elements or details that you believe define the uniqueness of this collection?

Tony Ward: It’s the architectural lines interrupted with organic craftsmanship that will always define the Tony Ward’s DNA, no matter how variant the collection is. The intricate detailing of the Couture Soul embedded into the Read-to-Wear makes it stand out.

FAB: Fashion is often a reflection of the times we live in. How do you see the “Other Side of Eden” collection as a commentary or reflection on contemporary society, culture, or the experiences of women today?

Tony Ward: We are in a feminist era and constantly challenging what was once a “taboo”. This collection revolves around the boldness of today’s woman, but also, it’s the avant-garde, edgy twist that characterises her. While Eden is everyone’s dream and we live every day in search of this paradise, nowadays our focus should shift towards learning and appreciating the other side of it.

FAB: Every collection often has its defining moment or piece. Is there a particular garment or detail in Tony Ward SS 2024 Collection: The Other Side of Eden that holds special significance for you?

Tony Ward: The craftsmanship behind this collection was special to me: incorporating the couture savoir-faire into the ready-to-wear pieces and introducing the technique of draping, using numerous fabric cuts to create the illusion of a draped look. Looking closer, you can see the details in the complex work.

Tony Ward: Each collection comes with a plan or future project. My goal is to keep on bringing new markets, meeting new clients, and dressing diverse women from all over the world. Sky is the limit!
