I hope my art can wake people up to do something – Interview with Nirma Siesenop, Artist

Interview with Nirma Siesenop, Artist

We sat down with the talented artist, Nirma Siesenop, to discuss her background, creative process, and future goals. Her artwork is known for its use of layers and symbols, creating depth and meaning in each piece. Overall, Nirma Siesenop’s artwork is a testament to the power of art in raising awareness and inspiring change.

Fab: We are delighted to have you with us, Nirma, and let’s start by talking about your roots. Can you tell us how your upbringing in Sri Lanka has influenced your art?

Nirma Siesenop: Sri Lanka is a tropical paradise filled with stunning landscapes and rich culture, which has had a significant influence on my art. The vibrant colours and patterns of my homeland’s architecture, fashion, and nature are prevalent in my work, reflecting my love for my country and its people.

Fab: You’ve mentioned the cultural differences between Sri Lanka and Western culture in your art. How do you navigate this divide?

Nirma Siesenop: Being an artist living in Germany, I have experienced some cultural clashes. Balancing my Sri Lankan identity with the Western world’s influence has not been an easy task. My art reflects this inner turmoil, and I try to bring the two cultures together by combining their unique features in my work.

Fab: Your art often explores the theme of “man and nature.” What motivates you to create art about the environment?

Nirma Siesenop: The beauty of nature has always been a source of inspiration for artists. However, with the rapid destruction of our planet’s natural wonders, I feel a sense of urgency to raise awareness and inspire people to take action to protect the earth. Through my art, I hope to awaken people to the need for environmental conservation. Stay up to date on the newest in the world of Fashion, Arts, Beauty and Lifestyle; Follow FAB on Instagram.

Fab: Your paintings are known for their intricate use of layers and symbols. Could you walk us through your creative process?

Nirma Siesenop: My creative process begins with a blank canvas, symbolising the pure and untouched. I then layer colours and textures on the canvas, allowing some areas to overlap or be re-exposed. Symbols and icons play an essential role in my work, representing the delicate balance between humanity and nature. By covering or revealing these symbols, I create depth in my paintings.

Fab: Your art has been exhibited worldwide. What has been your most memorable experience?

Nirma Siesenop: There have been many memorable moments throughout my career, but one that stands out is my exhibition in Croatia. The gallery was situated in a historical tower near the ocean, and the breathtaking views added to the beauty of my artwork. It was an incredible opportunity to showcase my work in such a unique location and connect with a diverse audience.

Fab:   What are your aspirations for the future of your art?

Nirma Siesenop: I aim to continue exploring the “man and nature” theme in my art and to use it to promote environmental awareness. I hope to reach a more extensive audience and inspire people to protect the planet through my work. Ultimately, I aspire to make art that speaks to the soul and makes a positive impact on the world.
