For his second collection as Global Creative Director of Woolrich Black Label, Todd Snyder has reinterpreted Woolrich’s rich heritage, traditionally rooted in woollen fabrics and outdoor apparel, for the warmer seasons. This 60-piece collection brings modern, luxurious interpretations of classic fieldwear such as fishing jackets, trekking shorts, and trail running jackets. Designed with the climate of the Pacific Northwest in mind, the pieces are made from advanced technical fabrics. Many of the styles are ideal for layering, perfect for days that range from foggy mornings to sunny afternoons to chilly evenings. The collection also includes water-repellent and convertible designs, such as nylon cargo trousers that can be converted into shorts.
“Woolrich is revered worldwide for its iconic contributions to the menswear canon—the Buffalo Check Shirt and Admiral Richard E. Byrd’s Arctic Parka,” says Snyder. “The challenge for this collection was to bring that same authenticity to warm-weather gear. I wanted to extend beyond the aesthetics and topographies of New England. I drew inspiration from the lush forests, wild rivers, and rugged coastlines of Oregon, imagining a spring vision for Woolrich that celebrates national parks, wide-open spaces, and nature’s beauty.”
Craftsmanship and materials
Despite their rugged appearance, the fabrics in this collection are of the highest quality. The collection includes cashmere shirts from Bacci and seam-sealed foul-weather gear made from Olmetex’s ripstop nylon. These premium materials ensure that the pieces are not only functional but also luxurious.
“Sportsman’s Lodge” – the theme of the collection
The theme of this Woolrich’s collection, “Sportsman’s Lodge,” epitomises the evolving intersection between outdoor gear and a luxury lifestyle. “Call it ‘WanderLuxe’ or ‘Rugged Luxury’,” says Snyder. “Just as sportswear has evolved into athleisure, we’re seeing a shift in menswear where stylish, sophisticated individuals are wearing technical outdoor clothing both to the office and out to dinner. This collection is designed to excel both in the field and in urban environments.”
Colours and patterns
Dynamic prints add a kinetic touch to the military tones and monochrome colours. Military green, deep obsidian, and earth tones play key roles, contrasting with vibrant lemon yellow and bright olive green. A modern interpretation of camouflage brings fiery orange and gold accents to the collection for a bold, contemporary touch.
Conclusion
With the Woolrich Black Label SS24 collection, Todd Snyder has created a line that combines both functionality and elegance. This collection is not only a tribute to Woolrich’s rich history but also a vision for the future of menswear, where technical materials and luxurious design go hand in hand. The pieces are as suitable for the challenges of the outdoors as they are for everyday urban life, creating stylish accents that appeal to today’s modern, discerning man.
