“The collection, Capítulo Uno, portrays all the technique and fabric manipulation I have been gathering since I started designing.
The contraposition of sexual desire and origami makes the collection a playful universe in which the customer can enjoy and feel themselves surrounded by colour and love. Making the fashion show in Paris was the perfect setting for the garments to be shown: trying to express my genuine sexual personality contrasting with the conservative and elegance of the city. This way, showing the difficulties of an emerging brand but keeping dreaming, and naked ready to be dressed.” – Romina Montserrat.
Her work revolves around creating textile fictions that seamlessly blend origami, historical clothing, and elements inspired by nature. As the founder of Romina Montserrat (2021), her fashion brand aims to break free from societal norms and construct captivating mythologies. Through her designs, she seeks to infuse historical fashion techniques with contemporary textile art, resulting in garments that embody a sense of liberation and enable the expression of suppressed sexuality.
Romina Montserrat reflects a sense of carnal liberation
Living in Lima, Peru, she faces constant challenges as a woman attempting to express herself freely in a society plagued by political chaos and deeply rooted machismo, sexism, and misogyny. Her initial motivation for creating these clothes was to find personal freedom within them. Each piece not only reflects a sense of carnal liberation but also serves as a protective shield, embracing and enveloping the female body in a comforting embrace.
Now, at this crucial point in her career, she has set her sights on Paris as a means to expand and elevate her fashion brand. Despite the numerous obstacles and the troubling statistics surrounding rape and the lack of governmental protection for women in her country, she is determined to validate herself as a women’s fashion designer. This passion fuels her desire to continue creating imaginative and fantastical designs that bring a touch of magic into people’s lives. She aspires to become a sanctuary of fantasy, where individuals can find freedom and honesty within themselves.
Since the age of 16
Since the age of 16, she has been sewing and selling her own creations, and each sale has reinforced the special connection people feel with her designs. Customers often express how unique they feel while wearing her garments and how the compliments they receive brighten their day. This personal project of hers serves as an opportunity to demonstrate that it is not only acceptable but also essential for women to embrace their own fantasies without reservation.
She firmly believes that clothing and fantasy possess the transformative power to create a better world. It is this conviction that drives her mission as a designer. Despite the challenges she faces, she is resolute in her dedication to continue pursuing this path, bringing a touch of magic to the lives of those who crave it. By expanding her brand and showcasing her work in Paris, she hopes to reach a broader audience, connect with fellow creatives, and inspire women worldwide to embrace their own fantasies. Together, women can challenge societal boundaries and foster positive change through the transformative power of fashion.
