For the second time, Mitya Hontarenko is showing his new collection with the label PLNGNS (Palingenesy) at Berlin Fashion Week. For the coming season, the Ukrainian designer is presenting elaborately constructed upcycled streetwear under the title “Sneaker Riot” and is once again demonstrating in an impressive way how sustainability and craftsmanship meet contemporary fashion.
Preview of the upcoming PLNGNS “Sneaker Riot” collection
Designer Mitya Hontarenko shows with his streetwear label PLNGNS (Palingenesy) how recycling shoes and clothing can create something new and unique. Similar to collage work, he examines the original product in detail and deconstructs it by hand into numerous individual parts in order to create new sneakers and items of clothing. Together with his team, he develops collections that impress with their complex cut construction and architecture and capture the Zeitgeist.
BFW Presentation 2024
With “Sneaker Riot”, the focus is on the popular PLNGNS shoes and complementary streetwear looks. The designer announces a collection whose style and color palette are influenced by current world conflicts. At the same time, with this season’s creations he builds a bridge between wearable art and commercial relevance. He impressively shows how, through skilled craftsmanship and contemporary intuition, an upcycling concept is not only sustainable but also market-driven.
He chose the architectural masterpiece Lobe Block in Berlin-Wedding as the setting for his new collection. The runway presentation will take place on Monday, July 1st at 1 p.m. (entrance by invitation only).
The show concept was selected and awarded a prize money as part of the “Berlin Contemporary” competition run by the Senate Department for Economic Affairs, Energy and Public Enterprises and the Fashion Council Germany.
