Found in 1994 as Munthe Plus Simonsen by Naja Munthe and Karen Simonsen, the Danish design house quickly gained international attention for their fresh and unique approach. After Karen Simonsen launched her own label, Naja Munthe continued the label, now called Munthe with a young approach towards Fashion and feminine designs combined with a Scandinavian aesthetic.
At the Munthe’s SS18 collection, Danish singer Freja Kirk performed during the entire presentation. Showing a selection of highly feminine and partly fragile pieces, Munthe focused on the softer side of classic womenswear. The collection includes oversized blouses and jumpsuits as well as long coats and flowing dresses. The party asymmetrical dresses and skirts are timeless summer pieces that highlight the body. Eye-catchers were the striped jumpsuits, as well as the leather skirts and dresses.
With a color palette ranging from dark blue over different shades of grey to brighter colors like red and yellow, topped off with silver, the collection embodies summer, not only in the cuts, but in the mix of material and colors, as well.
One might think, that the young and highly feminine pieces do not get along with the direct lyrics of Freja Kirk “pussy gone wild.” The collection shows the modern approach to feminism and the way to celebrate femininity together with feminism.
