The principles of Feng Shui are all about harmonising humans with the environment by maximising the balance of the flow of energy in natural space. Feng Shui literally translates to “Wind Water,” and it explains the constant force of energy that flows in natural space. Understanding the navigations of the practice will help to attract and sustain the flow of positive energy while keeping the negative energies at bay. There’s so much to say about the ancient Chinese wisdom of Feng Shui, but here is a simplified guide to incorporating the practice of Feng Shui into your home for better energy flow.
Bagua Map
The Bagua map is an essential tool in the application of Feng Shui to home design. The map helps divide the home into nine life areas that apply to you and identify the points of energy in your home. The ancient practice identifies five types of energy flow, referred to as Chi. The five Chi are water, wood, fire, earth, and metal. Once the points of energy are located, the objects that correspond to the chi are fixed into the spaces to create balance.
Declutter and Clean
One of the simplest ways to ensure a free flow of Chi in the home is to declutter and clean the home. Cluttered spaces in Feng Shui mean negative and stagnant energy, which disrupts the aim of Gem Shui. First, organise your home and clean up the dirt in it. You will feel lighter, less tired, and more motivated to take a step forward.
The Five Elements
With the help of the Bagua map, it is easier to achieve an accurate placement of the Feng Shui elements. These elements can be brought in raw (like an actual fire space for the element of fire) or represented with an object or painting. Earth could be represented with landscape images and pottery objects. Colours like brown and yellow in different shades also represent the earth. Achieving a level of balance between these elements and interior décor will definitely promote a free flow of positive energy.
Light
Light is an active source of energy, and it can influence and affect one’s mood. Good lighting puts you in a better mood. Natural light brings more positive energy into the home, so it’s good to let the natural light in and set up artificial light to erase cast shadows in the house. Bed Placement
Sleep is a time for rest and rejuvenation. It is quite important to be mindful of the bed placement, as a lot can happen when the body is unconscious. The goal is to have a restful sleep and wake up energised. A perfect placement would be an angle not directly across the door but in a place open to natural light where it can absorb the active (yang) energy.
