In a resounding declaration of self-acceptance and body positivity, Austrian designer Sarah Vasile presented a remarkable fashion performance at Vienna’s illustrious Belvedere Palace. Against the breathtaking backdrop of the palace, plus-size fashion influencer Tatiana Funkova took centre stage, draped in a voluminous pink dress that symbolises liberation from the narrow beauty standards perpetuated by society and social media.
Breaking Boundaries Against Beauty Stereotypes at Belvedere Palace
The dress, a true work of art that took a staggering 72 hours to create, sends a powerful message about inclusivity and self-love. Designed by Vienna-born Sarah Vasile, who returned to her roots after a successful career in Germany, the dress is more than just an exquisite piece of couture. It embodies a profound message of empowerment. Vasile explains, “The dress features a corsage that symbolises the societal and media pressures placed on women. As it extends, it becomes large and wide, signifying liberation from unrealistic beauty standards perpetuated by social media.” Her creation is a vibrant, joyful representation of breaking free from these standards and embracing happiness.
Joining this powerful artistic collaboration was the rebellious artist Raffaello Djordjevic, known as ARTBYRAFF. With black graffiti spray, he created a bold statement in front of Belvedere Palace, adding a unique graphic art element to the dress’s tail. ARTBYRAFF, a prominent Viennese artist, shares a passion for art that reflects life and inspires conversations, making his collaboration with the ‘Beauty Not Size’ message a perfect fit.
Tatiana Funkova, the force behind Project Size
Tatiana Funkova, the force behind Project Size, passionately advocates for diversity in fashion and media representation. She stands as a voice of self-assurance, stating, “Since childhood, I’ve adored beautiful dresses on runways and in my mother’s magazines. However, I often felt excluded, as these glamorous creations seemed reserved for skinny models. Today, I want to show that everyone deserves to feel beautiful and confident, regardless of size. This is the essence of Project Size. I want to let them know they are not alone. I proudly stand as a representation of women in larger bodies who can feel stunning and unapologetic in a dress like this.”
This event, known as the “Beauty Not Size” Performance, captured the attention and admiration of onlookers and tourists, who shared messages of support. Now, the ‘Beauty Not Size’ team is setting its sights on the international stage. After their impactful performance in Vienna, Sarah Vasile and Tatiana Funkova plan to take their message to Milan Fashion Week Streetstyles in September. Their mission is clear: to make a resounding statement in the world of fashion and media, championing the acceptance and mental freedom of women from societal pressures while celebrating the beauty of all body sizes.
