Approaching a Techno-Natural Utopia, “Technology has never existed in isolation from nature; we have always been creating hybrids.” Anthropologist Bruno Latour, in his work We Have Never Been Modern, bluntly points out that nature and technology have always been intertwined. Humanity has never truly been separate from nature, and technology constantly influences and shapes our understanding of it, as well as how we explore the relationship between humans and nature.

Post-Human Hybrids: ANNAKIKI SS25’s Sartorial Statement

He suggests: “We must learn to build a shared world where humans and non-humans coexist—not through dominating nature, but by merging with it.” We live in an interconnected world where the boundaries between nature and society have long blurred. With the enhancement of technology, our bodies and nature blend together, forming “hybrids.” This trend marks the dawn of a new era where nature, society, and technology are no longer independent entities. It signifies the arrival of a new future world—a utopia built upon techno-naturalism.

ANNAKIKI’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection, themed “Techno-Natural Utopia,” envisions the merging of technology and nature to create a post-human “hybrid” figure. Designer Anna Yang believes that technology is not separate from nature but rather an extension of its evolution and a tool for helping humanity coexist with nature. This season, she continues the brand’s signature neo-retro futurist aesthetic, aiming to shape the future human form where technology and nature seamlessly merge. Based on this, a utopian aesthetic landscape is constructed, with design details manifesting this sartorial narrative: ANNAKIKI Spring/Summer 2025 collection is all-black for the first time.

The Power of Black: Futurism Meets Calm in SS25 Collection

As the brand’s signature color, black represents restraint, calmness, and quiet strength, while also symbolizing the enigmatic allure of futurism. The unified color scheme highlights the rich textures created through the mix of various materials. Three-dimensional flowers, crafted from patent leather and metallic-coated fabrics, adorn collars and hemlines, symbolizing the harmonious coexistence of technology and nature, interpreting the regeneration and evolution of life forms in a future technological world. This design detail showcases the brand’s unique vision of the future. Silhouettes inspired by flower buds, made from high-tech materials, reflect a vision of harmonious coexistence between nature and humanity through material selection and construction.

The brand’s iconic element—the four-pointed star pattern—runs through the collection, using deconstruction art’s transformative design to symbolize the ever-expanding digital future. The brand’s signature design—the 3D wave sleeves—employs intricate three-dimensional quilting to create a striking visual depth. Wave-shaped pants are similarly crafted with quilting techniques and metallic-coated finishes, lending a retro-futuristic aesthetic to the sci-fi-inspired style.

Large silhouette gowns, made from high-tech materials, not only continue the avant-garde and cool aesthetic of the previous season but also emphasize the architectural and powerful form of the body. Anna Yang believes that as technology advances, the fate of nature and human society becomes increasingly intertwined.

Through ANNAKIKI’s design aesthetics, she aims to showcase the shape and everyday life of future humans, much like Latour’s advocated “hybrids”—humans and non-humans inextricably linked together.
