As beautiful as Vienna is all year round, at Christmas it transforms into a magical winter wonderland! Viennese and tourists alike, we enjoy the magic together.
The Christmas markets are bursting with energy and festive cheer! You can smell the chestnuts roasting in the streets and hear the lively music spilling out from the Punsch stalls dotted all over the city and even in some restaurants. The children are playing in the hay, building snowmen, or playing on the grounds. The parents join in, sipping on their mugs and enjoying the fun activities, transporting you back to your childhood wonder of the season. Copyright_ © WienTourismus-Paul Bauer
Vienna’s Christmas
There are so many markets spread out across the different districts. As locals, we know our favourite hidden gem markets that aren’t as crowded, but we also love popping into the big, popular ones to soak up the excitement.
THE MAGNIFICENT RATHAUS is decorated like a fairytale come to life. It has the biggest Christmas tree right in city hall. Surrounded with all the beautiful decorations and the stalls, from souvenirs, traditional foods, all the sweets one could imagine, gluhwienn, and different flavours of punsch, the orange one is a must try. The stalls are perfect for Christmas gifts, tree ornaments, wooden carvings, or any treats to remember your visit if you are visiting. The ice skating ring draws you in with its twinkling lights and festive music, creating lasting memories with family and friends.
