Earth has been battling with a lot of environmental crises, such as the fast-depleting ozone layer causing a rise in global temperature, flooding of water bodies with plastic and chemical waste, deforestation, and constant fighting against nature by humans.
A brand new year is always an opportunity to reflect and introspect, an opportunity to right our wrongs and make the world a better place. This article will serve the purpose of enlightening us on things that can be done by us all this year to start the Earth’s healing process.
Green living practices
Embrace Recycling and Proper Waste Disposal
If we can’t completely eradicate plastic and other polymer wastes, then we need to recycle used plastics and properly dispose of other non-renewable wastes after use. Plastics and other non-biodegradable materials should be recycled; chemical wastes, including those from domestic and industrial uses, should not be disposed of into water bodies. This will better help us preserve the Earth’s integrity and save our aquatic life.
Afforestation, ForestPreservation, and Management
Carbon dioxide, being one of the greenhouse gases, can be easily absorbed by trees. Heavy deforestation without replacement has been a big issue for the health of our dear Earth. Lack of proper forest preservation and management has also led to an increase in illegal tree cutting. Deforestation has also led to many of our wild animals losing their habitat. Practising afforestation and proper forest preservation and management will help keep our atmosphere clean and help the ozone layer recover while also creating a healthy environment for wildlife.
Advocate and Embrace Renewable Energy Sources
Since the discovery of fossil fuels and the invention of automobiles and other fuel-dependent industrial machines, Earth has suffered an exponential increase in the amount of carbon dioxide and other harmful gases in the atmosphere. While the advent of these discoveries and inventions has brought the world great advancement, sadly, it has also caused great harm to us all. Renewable energy sources are the way to go. Energy sources such as solar and wind power—while this might not be a sudden change and the use of carbon fuels might not be completely out of use—a reduction in our usage will greatly benefit the Earth. Electric cars and industrial machines should be encouraged even more. This fast-tracks Earth’s healing process and our planet.
Proper Education and Enlightenment of the Public on Earth Healing
Everybody should be in; if this is going to work, you, your friends, and I all have to be involved, and what better way to get everyone involved than proper enlightenment and awareness? From elementary school pupils to the elderly members of the community, education on how to preserve the earth should be our focus. A lot can change if everyone does their part. Let’s encourage this habit in everyone: mouth-to-mouth awareness, media awareness—everything should be done to properly build this positive mindset and habit of healing the earth.
Enforcement of Appropriate Laws Prohibiting Earth-Harming
If laws are in place to check recalcitrant individuals and prosecute offending members of society, and these laws are enforced, there will be a great reduction in how people comfortably destroy the planet. It’s not enough to have the laws; enforcement has to be in place. If there are people who are bent on destroying the planet, then they should be made to face the law and the consequences of their actions.
The Earth is a beautiful place we don’t deserve with how much we have come to it. We owe it to ourselves to help the Earth heal and replenish; these practices listed above should be encouraged not just this year but every day and every year. Let’s all come together to make the world a better place. Stay up to date on the newest in the world of Fashion, Arts, Beauty and Lifestyle; Follow FAB on Instagram.
