Kim Kardashian Stomps Approval on Controversial Margiela Tabi Shoes
A once-out-of-the-ark brand, the Margiela Tabi shoes gained popularity and rose to one of the world’s hottest shoes, according to a report by the Lyst Index in Q3 2023. This was following the story of Tiktoker, who got her pair stolen by her Tinder date. While other celebrities such as Dua Lipa and Olivia Rodrigo have rocked the now-popular Tabis, excitement has kicked the air as Kim Kardashian seems to have approved of the controversial footwear. She was spotted at the Maison Margiela Spring 2024 show rocking a black pair of the brand’s split-toe heels—a collaboration between Margiela and Christian Louboutin.
Balmain Scandal Hits the Internet as Plagiarism Allegations Rock High-End Fashion House
Sarah Diouf has accused the creative director of Balmain of plagiarism. The founder of the Senegalese brand Tongoro claimed Balmain’s accessories showcased at its FW24 men’s fashion show in Paris are similar to her designs. We wish it stopped there. However, Dominika, owner of the London-based brand Selfhood Official, also points fingers at similar allegations of plagiarism against the high-end fashion brand. On Tongoro’s Instagram account, the founder posted: “In May 2019, we presented our jewellery line, focusing on the ‘Cairo’ facial jewellery. Inspired by the make-up of the men of the Woodabe tribe. The face jewellery was first shown at the fashion show of our ‘Tongoro Tribe’ collection in Dakar as a tribute to African nomadic communities. Immediately after the show, our face jewellery was worn by model Naomi Campbell and singer Alicia Keys.
“The piece quickly became a success and an essential element of the Tongoro line. The jewellery was also styled by Zerina Akers for Beyoncé’s “Spirit” video. The visible resemblance of the piece presented by Olivier Rousteing in his Balmain autumn-winter 2024/2025 collection to ours is a difficult and painful occurrence, once again casting doubt on the true appreciation Western brands claim to have for African creativity. They claim to be “inspired” by it. But where is the line?”
Timberland Makes Fashion Comeback at the Paris Runways
The American boot brand made a dramatic comeback at Paris Men’s Week. First, models were spotted in yellow Timberland boots on Pharrell Williams’ Louis Vuitton-themed runway on Tuesday. On Wednesday, models stunned at the London-based designer Wales Bonner’s show. Willoughby, who is leading the post-scandal rebranding efforts, remarked, “The Timberland yellow boots have always been a fashion icon. These [activations] are about creating energy in the streets, tapping into hyper-local culture, and celebrating that, while also being at the centre of the fashion conversation.”
